Ollantaytambo Sacred Valley
In the “Sacred Valley” between Cusco and Agua Calientes (at the base of Machu Picchu) lies a beautiful little town not to miss – Ollantaytambo.
This town is a 3 hour bus ride from Cusco and well worth the visit on a day trip. Local buses are plentiful and cheap for getting there and back in a day.
Or you may choose to stop here in between your Machu Picchu round trip either by bus or train ex Cusco.
There are some official Inca ruins (seen in the picture above) and the entry fee is quite steep at 70 soles (approximately $30USD).
However if you visit the extremities on the other side of town, you can walk up the other side for free. The sign says the path is dangerous and not to go up, however if you are of a reasonable fitness, it is no problems.
There are some magnificent ruins on this side and spectacular views of the town below – and the other Inca ruins on the other side (the expensive ones!).
There are many cafes and restaurants around and off the main plaza.
If you are keen for a bit of hiking, there are paths on all the surrounding mountains ou can take – just leave enough time to be back to catch a bus back to Cusco!

This is such a nice little ton. If you book the Inca trail you will hike through here on a little detour. The little cafes/restaurants in the side streets are not to be missed and also the hike up to the ruins on the South side past the “peligroso” sign
